DID YOU KNOW ... ?

First plane: Črnomerec In 1909, the first airfield was built in Črnomerec. Famous inventor and engineer Eduard Slavoljub Penkala built a hangar next to the runway, in which he constructed the first Croatian airplane. On June 23rd, 1910 mechanic Dragutin Novak took off in Penkala’s airplane and became the first Croatian pilot in history. Later on, during one of Novak’s flights, the airplane was severely damaged and Penkala gave up on further research. show next
