DID YOU KNOW ... ?

Top of the tops: Tower of Sljeme On Sljeme, the highest top of Medvednica, the very first lookout was built in 1870. It was wooden, 4m high and shaped as a pyramid. The second one was designed by Milan Lenuci, famous for designing Zagreb’s Green Belt. The new lookout was 8 m high and also made of wood. When the forest grew much taller then the Lenuci’s lookout, people of Zagreb started constructing a 12m high, pyramid shaped, iron lookout. It was in 1889, the same year Eiffel Tower was built in Paris. In 1960 the first TV tower was built on Sljeme, with a much higher observatory than the "iron pyramid". Found unnecessary, the "iron pyramid" was moved to Samobor hills, where it remains today. show next
